There are a lot of beading foundations available for your embroidery projects, but one of my favorites is fish leather! Its bold colors and textures add a lot of interest to a piece of jewelry, like our Mermaid Dreams Bracelet. The durability of this leather makes for long lasting projects, but also makes it hard to stitch through. You can use today’s trick next time you get stuck!
Instead of stitching straight through a scale, maneuver your needle between the scales. The seams between the scales are the weakest point in the leather, making them the easiest places to stitch! You can also switch to a heavier needle, like a hand sewing or a glovers needle, for when you do have to go through a scale because of your pattern. But if you’re able to navigate to a seam between scales you should have no trouble stitching with your beading needle!
