Outstanding Jewelry from the Oscars!

What a year for jewelry at the Oscars! It looks like bold accessories have made a comeback for 2015! I’m happy to see jewelry have such a big impact on the red carpet again! I could go on and on with how amazing I thought so many of the designs were this year, but below are just a few of the looks that I was impressed with.

As a jewelry designer, this look was the one that inspired me the most from the 2015 Oscars. I was in awe of the stunningly beautiful emerald green custom Atelier Versace gown with a Swarovski crystal embroidered collar Scarlett Johansson was wearing. I’m a HUGE fan of the color emerald and all I could think about was how much I want a piece similar to Scarlet’s in my collection! This is definitely possible using some of our Swarovski Emerald Crystals incorporated with other elements and using our Bead Embroidery and Fringe techniques. We can’t forget about the mismatched gold and emerald earrings and ear cuffs she also paired with her dress. Some think this look was a little “over the top” but I love when actresses don’t play it safe and think outside the box.

Cate Blanchet

It was hard to miss the bold and beautiful turquoise floral bib necklace Cate Blanchett was wearing by Tiffany & Co. This stunning color brought out her eyes while the Maison Margiela Couture design – created by John Galliano black dress looked sleek and effortless! I think pairing bold statement jewelry with any simple dress will always be a big hit. You don’t want your outfit to be too loud, but this is just the right balance between accessories and gown in my opinion. If you’re in love with turquoise as much as I am and want to try to make your own statement necklace, we have many turquoise options for you to choose from.

Margot Robbie dazzled in a Saint Laurent gown with a plunging neckline that showed off her Van Cleef & Arpels necklace featuring rows of diamonds, sapphires and a dramatic tassel beautifully. Tassels are a huge trend in jewelry right now and that necklace was proof of how elegant they can look! The wonderful thing about tassels is how you can dress them up or dress them down, and add them to anything! Necklaces, earrings, bracelets, belts, shoes and much, much more can be accented with these fun textured elements. If you want to give the tassel trend a whirl in your own jewelry designs, be sure to check out our easy step-by-step Tassel technique and our Fantastic Tassels blog post.

Although her jewelry was minimal, Lupita Nyong’o  wore a custom Calvin Klein Collection pearl and ivory beaded dress that was breathtaking and definitely deserves a mention in my book! It looked stunning in images from afar, but when taking a closer look you realize that the full extent of this gown is beautifully adorned with pearlized embellishments, a dress any designer can appreciate.

Zoe Saldana wore a stunning Atelier Versace gown that is right on trend channeling one of Pantone’s Spring 2015 colors; Strawberry Ice. She paired the soft and feminine hue with a lovely diamond choker. Everything about this look oozes elegance.

Another actress that adorned herself with shades of the stunning Strawberry Ice is Gwyneth Paltrow! She wore a beautiful Ralph & Russo Spring 2015 Couture gown in this blush pink with an over-sized rose detail on the shoulder. To pair beautifully with her dress, she wore berry-hued and diamond-encrusted drop earrings! Her look is so subtle, sweet and glamorous.
