When taking photos, you want to make sure that your jewelry is the star of the show. That’s why Fusion Beads Inspiration Projects are photographed on a clean white background – there’s nothing to distract you from the gorgeous jewelry! If you’re like me, you take your photos against different backgrounds depending on what jewelry you’re photographing. Today’s tips will help you make the most out of a fabric background!
1) Choose the right fabric.
A busy pattern looks interesting on its own, but can distract the viewer or make it hard to see the jewelry itself. And every fabric in your sewing stash won’t look great with every piece of jewelry you make. Since I also sew I always have a large supply of fabric scraps on hand, but even clothing can work in a pinch! (The pink fabric on the right is actually a tee shirt!)
2) Clean your fabric.
A good, in-focus photo will show all of the details of your jewelry as well as your background, Cloth attracts all sorts of unwanted specs of dust, lint, fibers and stray hairs. Take the time to run a lint roller or piece of tape over your background. The camera will reveal more than the naked eye, so do this step even if you don’t see anything at first glance!
3) Be crease-free.
Ironing or steaming your fabric will remove any wrinkles that pull focus from your jewelry. Smooth, un-creased fabric hangs and drapes better, plus a flat background keeps your jewelry from lying funny in cloth peaks and valleys.
