Tuesday Tips and Tricks!

Magnetic clasps are a great choice if you value jewelry with a quick and easy closure. With fewer moving parts, this type of clasp is perfect for those of us who don’t have the dexterity or patience for more commonly used spring rings and lobster clasps. And today’s tips will help you have the best experience with your magnets!

To have enough strength to support the weight of your jewelry, the magnets in these clasps have to have a strong attraction. If your magnetic clasp is barrel or bead shaped try opening it by sliding the two halves of the clasp in opposite directions. Moving your clasp this way instead of pulling it apart helps prolong the life of your jewelry. A sharp pull can strain the connections to your clasp, weakening these points over time.

Be aware of the metal surfaces around you when wearing magnetic jewelry. I’ve left more than one bracelet dangling from the handle of a grocery store shopping cart! Magnetic clasps will also attach to refrigerators, car doors and even other pieces of your jewelry. Check for any stowaway jewelry before leaving the house and stay alert while wearing magnetic jewelry!
